Amylase is an enzyme produced mainly by pancreas and salivary gland to digest starch in our intake food. Usually it will be available in blood in small quantities, but whenever any pancreatic cell damage or duct blockage occurs , blood amylase quantity will increase. It is used to diagnose acute pancreatitis and other pancreatic disorders with symptoms like severe abdominal pain, fever, loss of appetite, nausea.This test can be performed in serum/ Heparin plasma,do not use EDTA, Oxalate, Citrate plasma
